The Joule School

Welcome to The Joule School (R)

Hours, Tuition, and FAQ

General

  1. Where are you located?

We currently hold classes inside Church of the Savior at 3402 Little Elm Trail, Cedar Park, TX 78613.  We are near Lakeline Mall and across from Hill Country Bible Church.

Our school is easily accessible from Round Rock, Leander, Cedar Park, and North Austin.  The intersection of 45/620 and 183 is located just a few blocks away.

  2. What are your hours?

The school is open from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Friday.

    Classes run from 8:30 - 4:00 for full-day students, and 8:30 - 1:30 for partial-day students.

Extended Care hours are 7:30 - 8:30 AM (morning session) and 4-5:30 PM (afternoon session).

  3. How do you pronounce "Joule?"

Joule rhymes with jewel, pool, and school.

  4. How old must my child be to attend The Joule School?

Students are considered for admission when they are developmentally ready for a kindergarten program, which for gifted students might range from 3-5 years old.  We do not enroll students younger than 3 unless they demonstrate exceptional academic readiness.  Students must be potty trained and no longer napping, unless they attend half-day.  In general, the oldest new students we accept are those who are age-normed for 8th grade, typically around 13 years old.

  5. Do you follow the Leander ISD calendar?

The Joule School uses a year-round calendar.  Attending school year-round reduces the amount of material that students forget over the long summer holiday, and eliminates the "warm-up" period at the beginning of school where students adjust to being back in classes.  Because we take breaks throughout the school year, Joule students are able to stay relaxed, invigorated, and focused from fall through spring.  Many parents who transferred from public schools have reported that the year-round calendar works much better than a traditional calendar for their children. Additionally, it also allows families to vacation together in the off-season when flight prices are low.
Fall classes begin around July 15th and run until Thanksgiving with a two-week break in September.  We do not have classes during December or June.  The Spring semester runs from early January through Memorial Day, with a two week break in March.  We observe all federal holidays.

  6. Do you serve lunch at school?

We offer daily fruit and vegetable snacks, a twice-weekly hot lunch program, and have Pizza Day once a month.  Students bring their lunches from home during alternate days.

  7. Are you hiring?

We accept applications for teachers and substitutes year-round.  To apply, send a resume and cover letter to [email protected]

  8. Do you require uniforms?

Yes, our uniforms are available at Parker School Uniform Supply on Northcross Blvd.

  9. How much is tuition?

Regular full-time tuition is $10,550 annually.  Full-time classes run from 8:30 - 4:00.  Part-time tuition is $8,650 annually.  Partial-day classes run from 8:30 - 1:30 Monday through Friday.  3-6 year old students may attend either full-time or half-day.

    Additional Fees/Programs

Enrollment:  If a student is accepted to The Joule School, there is a one-time enrollment fee of $500 per family.  This fee is only paid when a student intially joins the school and does not repeat annually.

Extended Care:  We offer before and after school care.  The morning session is from 7:30-8:30AM, and the afternoon session is 4:00-5:30 PM. Care ranges from $10-12 a session for drop-ins, and $8.50-$10 a session with an annual contract.

Food:  The hot lunch program is $3 a day for kindergarten through 5th grade, and $5 a day for middle schoolers.  Unlimited daily fruits and veggies are included in tuition.  Pizza is offered to all students on the last Friday of every month at no cost.

Music:  Private piano lessons are $40, and are offered once per week during the entire school year.

  10. Do you provide financial assistance?

We provide family discounts (5% for the first sibling, 10% for the second, and 15% for the third).

We may be able to arrange work-trade in exchange for a discount on tuition for families with financial need. A child must be accepted to the school before an application for assistance will be processed.  Financial aid applications are made through the National Association of Independent Schools.

  11. What are my child's chances of getting accepted?

Our acceptance rate for 2016-2017 was approximately 1 in 5 student applicants.  This varies year by year.  In general, we accept no more than 1 in 3 applicants.

Our speciality is working with hypermobile (busy!) kids, and those who need academic acceleration.  Students who are creative, original, and curious are welcomed here, so we encourage you to apply if interested in Joule!

We believe that students need to be in the right school setting for their learning style. We look for students who are really going to thrive in our model.  Because our admissions process is focused on determining if a student would be a good fit, it is completely free.
